    Workshop & Training Series

Professional development that deepens craft and builds confidence

    Theatre workshop training session
    Learning from the Professionals

The Workshop & Training Series brings professional theatre artists, directors, choreographers, and technical experts directly to Heritage High School to work with our students. These intensive, hands-on sessions provide opportunities that go far beyond what traditional classroom instruction can offer, exposing students to diverse perspectives, advanced techniques, and industry standards.

Each workshop is carefully curated to complement our curriculum, fill skill gaps, and introduce students to specialized areas of theatre they might not otherwise encounter. From audition techniques and character development to stage combat and vocal coaching, these sessions empower students to deepen their craft and discover new passions within the performing arts.

    How It Works
    Monthly sessions with industry professionals

Workshops are held monthly throughout the school year, typically on Saturday mornings or afternoons to accommodate student schedules. Each session runs 3-4 hours and is led by invited industry professionals including working actors, directors, choreographers, technical designers, and other theatre artists from regional and national companies.

    Workshop Topics Include:

    • •Acting Techniques: Method acting, Meisner technique, character development
    • •Voice & Speech: Vocal projection, dialects, vocal health
    • •Movement & Dance: Stage combat, choreography, physical theatre
    • •Audition Mastery: Monologue selection, cold reading, callback strategies
    • •Lighting Design: Advanced lighting techniques, programming, design concepts
    • •Sound Engineering: Mixing, microphone techniques, sound design
    • •Scenic Design: Set construction, painting techniques, scenic art
    • •Stage Management: Production organization, calling shows, team coordination

Students can register for individual workshops based on their interests or attend the full series. Class sizes are kept intentionally small (15-20 students) to ensure personalized attention and meaningful interaction with guest instructors.

Building Skills That Last a Lifetime

The Workshop & Training Series represents our commitment to providing students with professional-level instruction that prepares them for college theatre programs, community theatre involvement, and even professional careers in the performing arts. Past guest instructors have included Broadway performers, regional theatre directors, university theatre professors, professional choreographers, and Tony Award-nominated designers who bring decades of experience and invaluable industry insights. Students develop not only technical skills but also professional habits, networking abilities, and a deeper understanding of theatre as both an art form and a collaborative discipline.

The skills developed through these workshops extend far beyond the stage—students build confidence, public speaking abilities, creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, and resilience that serve them in any career path they choose. Recent workshop highlights include a masterclass with a Broadway actress who coached students on audition techniques and the business side of professional theatre, a stage combat workshop led by a certified fight choreographer that taught students safe and effective movement for fight scenes, and a lighting design intensive where students programmed and designed complete light plots for hypothetical productions. Many of our workshop alumni credit these experiences with helping them earn admission to competitive college theatre programs and securing roles in community and regional theatre productions. The program has grown from four workshops in its first year to ten annual sessions, with student demand consistently exceeding capacity—a testament to the transformative impact these learning opportunities provide.
